What Halo Pay is. The legal bit.
What this means for your nursery: Section 318 of the Income Tax (Earnings and Pensions) Act 2003 sets out a tax exemption for workplace nursery benefits. It says, in effect, that if an employer is at least partly responsible for financing and managing the nursery an employee uses, the cost of that nursery can come out of the employee's salary before tax. When a parent's employer joins Halo, that's the arrangement in place. Your nursery receives the full fee, paid on time, every month. Nothing changes about your fee agreement, your registration, or how you run your setting. Halo handles the employer side — the compliance evidence, the payroll deduction, the audit trail. You just get paid.

- What does adding my page actually do?
- Adding your nursery activates it on the Halo network. Before you do, your page exists but is unclaimed — parents can see it but you're not receiving enquiries or Halo Pay. Once added, you can update your page, receive enquiries directly, and accept fees from parents whose employers are on Halo.
- What does it involve?
- Search for your nursery by name or postcode, verify via a link sent to your registered email address, and you're in. Most settings are through in under two minutes.
- A parent at our nursery wants to pay through Halo. What do we do?
- Add your page if you haven't already. Once you're on the network, parents whose employers are on Halo can set up their arrangement. The payment route changes — fees come via Halo — but the amount and your fee agreement stay exactly as they are.
- Is there any commission on fees paid through Halo?
- None. Halo takes no cut of the fees parents pay you. The full amount goes to your nursery.
- Do I have to do it online, or can someone help?
