Halo Pay

Halo Pay Workplace Nursery.

Pay your nursery fees from pre-tax salary and keep more of what you earn — through a benefit your employer offers.

For working parents

Save on childcare through your employer. Done properly.

Pay your nursery fees from your gross salary, before tax — and keep more of what you earn. It's backed by UK tax law (Section 318 ITEPA 2003); your employer pays the nursery directly each month on your behalf. Most families save around £5,000 a year, and higher-rate taxpayers up to £8,000. Pop in your work email and we'll check whether your employer is on Halo in seconds.

What changes on your payslip

More of your pay stays with you.

A straightforward example — £500 a month contributed (£6,000 a year). Your contribution is a pre-tax deduction, so your taxable pay falls and you pay less on money that was going to nursery fees anyway.

Are you eligible?

Five things need to be in place.

  1. 1Your child is under 5.
  2. 2Your nursery is an Ofsted or Care Inspectorate-registered nursery in the Halo network.
  3. 3Only one parent per child can use Halo Pay.
  4. 4You're not currently using Tax-Free Childcare — you'd need to leave that to use Halo Pay.
  5. 5Your take-home pay after the contribution stays above the National Minimum Wage. The platform checks this automatically.

FAQ

Common questions.

Will this affect my pension?
It can, if your pension contributions are based on gross salary. Some employers adjust pension contributions to compensate — check with your HR team or pension provider.
What if I go on maternity or parental leave?
Your arrangement pauses during unpaid leave and can be reinstated when you return. Halo will contact you in advance of any changes.
Can I adjust the amount later?
Yes — once per year, or following a qualifying life event such as a change in nursery hours or a new child. Log in to your Halo dashboard or contact your HR team.
My nursery isn't on the platform yet — what do I do?
Ask your nursery manager to register — it's free and straightforward. Or let us know at hello@halobenefits.co.uk and we'll reach out to them directly.
Is this HMRC approved?
Halo Pay is robustly designed to comply with the most up-to-date legislation around Section 318 ITEPA 2003 — the statutory tax exemption that makes workplace nursery benefits possible. For personal tax questions, we recommend speaking with an independent financial adviser.
